This includes all pistols not allowed in the previous Cominazzo, Kuchenreuter, and Mariette (MLAIC/MLAGB) competitions. Pistols and revolvers, designed post the end of the American Civil War, are usually disallowed from the above categories and fall into the Free Pistol category. Basically a rifled flintlock pistol is not allowed in the Cominazzo. A revolver with target sights, or of a late design like the Ruger Old Army shown below, are not allowed in the Mariette. If any pistol has been modified away from the original design then it would be disallowed and would then have to fit in here e.g if you took a Rogers and Spencer and replaced the original sights with a set of adjustable Patridge sights you would be banned from the Mariette competition.

The UK designed nitro powder muzzleloading Patriot is a case in point. It is very like a UIT/ISSF .32 pistol. It is therefore a "free pistol".

Have a look at this to confirm the idea! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sSN-AmSG-JE&NR=1
There are some fun things around! We should enjoy them, but competitions are just that, and they have boundary fences just like prisons and are just as restrictive. So be prepared to have guns for fun and guns for competitions.
