The underhammers are an interesting group of target pistols. This one is accurate and easy to shoot. It is unusual, like all underhammers in not having a half-cock notch. There is no set-trigger. Here, in this design, the hammer slides forward. I was surprised how much effort it took to cock and after a few shots I started using a folded up glove on the cocking lever to make it more comfortable. I have since cut a thick piece of suede leather to the right size to protect the cocking finger.
The nipple is not as easy to access as in most other percussion pistols, the fitting of caps can be fiddly. There is not enough room to use a nipple key, and a small open jaw spanner/wrench will be needed. The nipple is easiest to remove and replace when the hammer is removed.
Both the instruction books (old green and new gold) list the same load information
7 thou" patches
.354" ball
12 grains of powder.
